What does Mornington Volleyball Club offer?

We are a not for profit sporting club located on the Mornington Peninsula. Catering to all ages & skill levels. Social comp & state level teams with weekly training. Our Victorian State League teams train at least once a week, or twice a week at higher levels. Trials for our State League teams are held in February every year. Additionally, Mornington VC invests heavily in our youth. We run SpikeZone on Monday nights, a Junior Social Competition (U18) on Tuesday nights, and Junior State League training on Thursday nights. We also offer a Senior Social Competition on Wednesday nights for all ages.

Who is in charge of running the club?

We are a committee of 10 volunteers. The committee is comprised primarily of parents, coaches, and players. The annual general meeting (AGM) is held usually late in the year, this year it will be held in October. At the AGM each committee position is emptied to be filled anew. You can see information on the current iteration of the committee linked here.

State League Competition

When does the State League competition run?

Trials are run in February and the competition itself usually runs at the beginning of April. You can find out more on Volleyball Victoria's website.

Am I guaranteed a spot in a State League team?

We try to accomodate for as many players as possible during our trials. Sometimes due to numbers, players may not always make a team, but are strongly encouraged to continue training. We try to always find a spot in our Junior State League teams where possible for every player, however.

When are games played?

Senior games are played on Saturdays anywhere between 8.am to 8pm. This year Mornington is only running U17 Junior teams, with games held on Friday nights.

Where are games played?

Games are typically played at the Dandenong State Volleyball Centre. The league has expanded to include a much wider range of stadiums however. Games can also be expected to be played at Endeavour Hills, Mazenod, Maroondah Nets, MSAC, Springers, as well as our own Mornington home rounds held at Jubilee Park. There are occasionally country rounds, played at either Ballarat or Bendigo. These are few and far between, and usually two games are played on the day due to the travel time.

Please note that some venues may charge an entry fee for athletes and spectators.

What uniform am I required to wear to play State League?

Men - Mornington playing shorts and top. White socks.

Women - Navy Joust bike shorts and a mornington playing top. White socks.

As previously mentioned all uniforms can be ordered through VP Jonny Knight.

Kneepads, ankle bracers, skins, and arm sleeves are all allowed and can be worn at the players discretion.

Will I be expected to attend every game?

Yes. Players are expected to commit to playing every game. We understand this can be outside of your control at times and ask that you let your coach know an appropriate amount of time before hand.

Will I be expected to perform duty?

Yes. Mornington VC aims to set a standard for the quality of duties during the season. You may be expected to referee, line judge, write the scoresheets, or operate the scoreboard. We are always here to help teach players how to perform duties to allow those playing the game to enjoy themselves. You should always put the same amount of effort into your duties as you would like the duty team to give you when its your turn to play.

I have never played volleyball before - can I join?

State League has various divisions for a wide range of skill level, with the lowest being State League Divison 3. Even at this level however there is a certain standard of play required. New players are encouraged to attend Thursday night training, join a social competition team, or both.
